Last October my 30-year-old appy quarter horse was diagnosed with Cushing's, he was a big furry mess the winter before, his legs were like giant hairy posts and he had a big shock of fur on his throat under his jaw. He shed out about a month after my other horses did and looked normal, however his cortisol levels were high he also was experiencing multiple abscesses on one foot or another every two weeks and rarely was able to walk normally . First, our western vet gave him pergolide which after eight days he had a terrible reaction to and got nystagmus, which is very rapid eye movement, so he wasn't even able to focus on me and was so afraid!! Dr. Fenton started treating him in November she gave him acupuncture and Chinese herbs , I supplemented with Chaste tree berry that I ground myself, now here it is the middle of February and you wouldn't even know it was the same horse, he never got to be a big furball and his feet have been good as well. And my horses have all started shedding, including him! Dr. Fenton is passionate about horses and treating them she is super knowledgeable and has many tricks up her sleeve! I am eternally grateful to her for giving my horse back his quality of life!

I have known Dr. Fenton for a couple of years as she has provided amazing insight and care to my beloved dogs and horses. I can’t sing her praises enough. She is dedicated, has great bed side manner with the animals, thinks outside the box, is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and makes herself available. She approaches patients in a holistic manner that compliments traditional medicine and is very thorough. Her knowledge of Chinese medicine adds another set of tools to her tool box. She brings the best of both worlds together which is refreshing as I believe many vets simply take a very clinical approach with a predetermined protocol. This usually involves treating a symptom and not the cause plus a reliance on too many drugs which have additional negative side effects. Dr. Fenton is very well versed in this area as well but her passion is healing.
Dr. Fenton was an invaluable guide for me when my two older dogs were diagnosed with more serious conditions later in their lives. She took a complimentary approach that improved their quality of life and was supportive of the western treatments that were required. (heart murmur). My dogs remained active and spry throughout their lives and I am confident it had much to do with good nutrition, active lifestyle and complimentary treatments she administered which included laser therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic and herbals.
She has treated my horses with acupuncture and body work and they have greatly benefitted from the results which are rather immediate.
I highly recommend Dr. Fenton to anyone who is serious about their pet’s wellbeing. Dr. Fenton is a very caring and professional vet that won’t leave any stone uncovered. I am happy to have found her in this big city as I personally take a similar approach to my own health and have consistently experienced the healing benefits of more non- traditional modalities.

For many
years I searched for a holistic veterinarian who shared my core values and
understood my beliefs. My pets are family members and a very important part of
my life. I believe that today’s world is full of toxic chemicals, preservatives
and pharmaceutical drugs, all of which contribute to a high rate of cancer and
disease in us and our companion animals. Not to mention the serious negative
impact they have on our environment and planet.
It was extremely important to me to find a veterinarian that was willing to offer holistic treatment options and did not have the mentality that antibiotics and steroids “cure” everything and are the treatment of choice. At best, they provide only temporary relief, at worst they do not promote healing but rather cause serious short and long term side effects and compromise the immune system.
Then, about a year ago my search ended when an amazing young woman named Dr. Rhiannon Fenton entered our lives. Not only is Dr. Fenton a talented and dedicated veterinarian, she is a lot of fun to work with and is truly a compassionate caring, individual when it comes to the well being of her patients!. Currently, Dr. Fenton and I are working together to help my horse overcome a very challenging case of chronic diarrhea. She also discovered he had early stages of Insulin resistance and recommended an herbal metabolic supplement which combined with increased regular exercise, has eliminated his symptoms.
Dr. Fenton is also helping my cat, who is battling severe allergies. She is incorporating a combination of Chinese herbs, acupuncture and massage therapy, along with other natural and holistic treatment to help my animals. I can’t say enough good things about her and feel truly fortunate to have found her. You need look no further if you are searching for the utmost care for your pets!

Rhiannon has been a blessing in virtually every aspect of our lives. We are people that enjoy being around animals of all kinds and so it seems that animals gravitate towards us and we now have quite a menagerie. Making up part of that menagerie are seven wonderful horses and ponies with seven different personalities and a multitude of needs. Training, diet, medical and exercise needs abound. Just when we'd given up on finding someone that could understand our horses (and us), Rhiannon appeared. And with perfect timing, Rhiannon's intuitiveness is one of her many gifts. Our mustang/curly coat filly, Aurora, needed to get started and no one wanted to even sit on her! We had boarded her with various trainers since she was 6 months old and she was just turning three. Rhiannon came out to evaluate Aurora and after about 20 minutes of talking, walking and scratching her, Rhiannon was riding bareback around our corral! They are bonded forever and Aurora is making incredible progress. Rhiannon now is taking on Aurora's mom, Cinnamon, a rescue that never was given much of a chance to succeed. Rhiannon is the most positive person we know, so the final outcome is always success.
Another of our problem horses has flourished under Rhiannon's care. Our Tennessee Walker, has spent years away with trainers to help him overcome his fear of cars and trucks. Though some have made progress, he was still a frightened, tense mess! Rhiannon took over and provided him with consistent, calm leadership and his confidence on the streets has improved so he is no longer dangerous to us or himself. She also provided him with chiropractic help for his tenseness as well as problems he had gotten from spooking, running and falling. Once he fell while being turned out in the arena and was limping so badly he did not even want to move. Rhiannon began chiropractic work on him and soon he was off and running!
Rhiannon's expertise and healing intuition have helped all of our animals. She uses homeopathic remedies which are perfect since we have had some disastrous side effects with meds in the past. One of our horses has Chronic Progressive Lymphedema and Rhiannon researched, consulted with experts and came up with a program of supplements and a treatment that will help slow down the disease and relieve the pain. Our horses have had digestive problems, proud flesh, personality conflicts and more. We turn to Rhiannon who is always happy to offer suggestions, products to try and hands on solutions. She is a blessing that we intend to never be without!

Dr. Fenton has spent countless hours observing my two horses as well as my cat. One horse was prone to colic, the other had a bout of laminitis and had recovered fully and my cat was allergic to food. She poured over their medical records and came up with homeopathic solutions that have been easy for me to implement.
Her source of knowledge and her ability to share it with her clients is only one of the many reasons that a strong bond of trust and respect is quickly formed. It's always a great learning experience.

My experience with Dr. Fenton has been wonderful. I have a 12 year old Friesian that I felt was slightly off but couldn't figure out the source. I could feel it at the walk and he had a hard time picking up his left lead and would also cross canter. I tried numerous things to see if I could pinpoint where his soreness was coming from and no one could even notice that he was off. Finally I had Dr. Fenton come out (who I have known for a few years and has been a big help with my horses) and she could immediately tell he was off and where she thought it was coming from. She spent about two hours going over every inch of his body, massaging him, finding the sore/ tense/tight spots and adjusting him where he needed to be. Needless to say, my horse was a bit restless and moving around after a while. Not once did she get impatient or rough with him. She just took her time and kept on going even though she had to reposition her chiropractic bales quite a few times. She then watched me walk him out and I could immediately tell a difference in his walk. The following day I took him to the arena and he was so much more forward and supple. He had no problem picking his lead and his canter finally felt great. It really was like night and day. I was already so pleased after that but then I took him on a long trail ride a few days later and I was even more thrilled. Normally, when I ride him for longer periods, I get a sore back or a cramp. After he got adjusted I had no discomfort whatsoever because he was using himself so much better. I didn't realize that him being blocked up was causing me discomfort. He became so much more forward and he actually galloped for me for the first time (I've owned him for six months). And he's been feeling great ever since! I definitely recommend trying Dr. Fenton for Chiro, and I have already recommended her to a few trainers and friends, even to the riding school I work at. I plan on having her come out again soon just to follow up with my big guy and make sure I'm keeping him on track.

I kept, trained and rode a small herd of Paso Fino horses at a 40 acre ranch in Central California back in the 1980s and 90s. I moved to Los Angeles and decided to bring 4 of the horses with me. They had never seen traffic, crossed a road or street and did not know what it meant to wait quietly and patiently at a traffic crossing as huge buses, trash trucks, motorcycles and other loud scary objects passed by them. Many of the horses were very young around 2 to 7 years old as well as high-spirited due to their breed. Rhiannon Fenton whom I had known for some years took the horses out and got them used to traffic. She first took out Flamenco, a big white gelding, crossed the street and was headed up the trail to the top of the Palos Verdes peninsula where the view is awesome. His gait is quite brisk and he has brakes like a Ferrari. During one particular ride, she opened him up on the trail to let him get into the largo gait which can be pretty fast. Suddenly upon coming around a bend in the trail, they encountered a large stream of water coming at them from a leaking water tank up the hill. Flamenco stopped on a dime without warning and Rhiannon flew over his head, did a somersault and kept the reins in her hands so he could not run off. She picked herself up, brushed off the dirt, showed him the water and worked on the source of fear with him. After about five minutes of water and mud exploration, pawing in the water, and walking back and forth over the stream, they both continued up the hill through the water and ultimately finished the ride having instilled faith, confidence and trust in one another. He never did that again upon encountering water. In fact, from that day on water was never an issue but something he remembered to face instead of being afraid. This is a testament to Rhiannon's never-give-up-spirit and her ability to turn a situation such as this one into a success for horse and rider.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Fenton for over 5 years. I first met her when she boarded her two horses with me for the summer and we have kept in touch since then. She is a smart, capable and extremely dedicated young woman who understands the mind set and needs of animals - especially equines. I trust and respect her judgment so much that I have boarded my own horse with her while I traveled extensively this year. I know with her he is well cared for and having a happy and carefree life.
