She was aiming at a PhD in computational linguistics at Stanford, when she purchased her Holsteiner stallion - Smirnoff. Monique has spent many years researching, trimming and shoeing the hoof. She rides and trains horses. Her research has been presented at veterinary and farrier conferences and is published in peer-reviewed journals. She has written numerous articles about the hoof for horse owners and farrier magazines, both in the USA and Europe. She gives lectures in the USA and internationally. She has been a visiting scholar at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo for the past nine years where she is one of the lecturers in a class on equine biomechanics for pre-veterinarian students. A few years, ago she launched the Epona-Institute, an institute devoted to hoof and equine biomechanics research. www.EponaShoe.com www.Epona-Institute.org |

Owner of Art2Ride Saddlery - Custom Saddle Fitting I never stop learning from horses (after 40 years!) and one of the most important aspects that every horse owner needs to be aware of is proper saddle fit. Either your saddle is your horse’s best friend or their worst enemy - it is important for every rider to know the difference since your horse depends on you to be his advocate. Saddles can also be painful for women because they aren't ergonomically designed specifically for women (still made for the male rider). This is why I became a Certified Saddle Ergonomist trained in the Saddlefit4life philosophy. Many institutes and professionals around the world have adopted the Saddlefit4life protocol because it is based on science, research, experience and a passion for the horse. The German National Riding Academy, Osteopathic Universities, Chiropractors, Vets, Acupuncturist, Farriers and Bodyworkers - those who see the horse as a whole and realize how poor saddle fit effects lameness, soreness, poor performance, training issues and bad behavior. A Saddle fit includes detailed measurements of the horse and rider, a 36pt evaluation of saddle fit for the horse and rider plus a static and dynamic analysis. Horses should enjoy being ridden as much as we enjoy riding them! For more information visit Art2Ridesaddlery.com or call 858-342-6691 |
